Held for the first time in 1985 and continued annually ever since, GALA ITALIA is the most important annual event organized in the United States to promote Italian wine and food. The Gala also highlights top restaurants, fashion, music, the arts and other products of “Made in Italy.” Every year the event greatly benefits from the success of past editions, as well as from several additional features. GALA ITALIA is organized by the Italian Wine & Food Institute under the high patronage of the Italian Ambassador to Washington, D.C.


The Wine and Food Tasting Reception will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 p.m. in the Petite Salon of the JW Marriott Essex House, and will see the presence of the leading Italian wine and food producers and over 300 qualified and selected guests, restaurateurs, and journalists from across the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. The JW Marriott Essex House, the prestigious venue of GALA ITALIA, will be specially prepared for the event and supplied with all equipment necessary to implement this initiative. Waiters will take care of the installation of wine stations and the arrangement of wines at the wine station assigned to each company. The opening of the bottles, the pouring of the wines and the distribution of information to the guests will be the responsibility of the producers and/or importers.

A) – Wines to be Presented at Wine & Food Tasting Reception:

At the GALA ITALIA, each winery must present only wines produced by its own company, and up to a maximum of four wines, one of which must be of particular importance and vintage. Based upon an expected attendance of over 300 guests at the event, it is suggested to deliver to The Pierre Hotel at least one carton (12 bottles of 750 ml.) for each exhibited wine (to avoid the risk of running out of wine before the conclusion of the Wine Tasting).

All the unused wines can be collected at the end of the event. The participating wineries should agree with their importers on their participation details and on delivery of the wines. They should also make sure that the vintages of the wines delivered to the hotel by the importers are the same as those indicated in the participation form and in the catalogue.


The Gala Press Dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the JW Marriott Essex House.

B) – Wines to be Served at the Gala Press Dinner

At the Gala Press Dinner, each winery must present one wine produced by its own company. This wine must be of particular importance and vintage. At least 36 bottles of 750 ml. of the wine for the dinner are required (one bottle for each table).

C) – Wine Delivery

All the wines should be delivered to the JW Marriott Essex House in New York. Each participating wine company will receive a delivery label upon submitting the participation form.

D) – Invitations

The most qualified wine and food editors, trade representatives and restaurants from across the Northeast of the U.S. will be invited to the GALA ITALIA based upon a frequently-updated mailing list. The Italian Wine & Food Institute will follow up with e-mails and letters to invitees, ensuring a high attendance level at the gala. Furthermore, an intensive public relations campaign will be conducted to publicize the event and its participants, and a series of press releases will be sent to wine and food editors and American press.

E) – Catalogue

A special catalogue program will be printed for the GALA ITALIA that will list: every wine and food station with each producer’s name and station number; the brand and the denomination of each wine presented; the name of the importer with his/her address; and contact information. In addition, the catalogue will list the featured restaurants and the food producers and/or importers, with their food products, and all the companies involved in the event. Special recognition will be given to the sponsors of the event. The catalogue will be distributed to all guests in attendance at the GALA ITALIA. In addition to being listed in the catalogue, the participating companies will be publicized (at no extra cost) on the website of the Italian Wine & Food Institute in the “Exhibitors” category and, thanks to the producers’ full address indication, website visitors can easily contact the producers.

F) – Registration

Only trade representatives (importers, wholesalers, retailers, wine buyers from various organizations, restaurateurs and sommeliers), wine and food editors, and highly-qualified consumers are invited to the GALA ITALIA. All guests must register on our website via the Gala Italia Registration Page (OPENING SOON). The deadline to RSVP is February 24, 2017.

G) – Cost of Participation

The contribution for participation in the Gala Italia Wine Tasting and the Gala Press Dinner is $4,000 for each producer, and includes Two Admission Tickets to the Gala Press Dinner (Value: $1,000).
